Jason

“The Mission felt safe. I was so grateful to be off the streets.”

Jason and his partner were in a committed relationship and had a daughter together. He was working as a chef, but when his partner got a job that she was excited about, Jason wanted to be supportive. He quit his job to stay home with their daughter so she could go back to work.

“Then one day she came home and said she’d met someone at work. I just broke down,” Jason says. “She was able to prove that she could provide a better living situation for our daughter, so I lost custody. It felt like I had nothing else to live for.

Devastated by the breakdown of his family, Jason turned to drugs and alcohol to numb his pain. Addiction took away his motivation, and he lost his job and his home. With nowhere else to go, Jason lived in a tent for the next year and a half. He lost all his possessions, and he spent every day in fear.

“I never knew where I’d get my next meal or if someone was going to assault me in the middle of the night,” he says. “That’s why Bread of Life Mission was such a blessing.”

“The Mission felt safe. I was so grateful to be off the streets.”

Jason joined our LifeChange program and – with counseling and support – started to heal from his past. When he arrived, his faith was nonexistent. But through Bible study and fellowship with our other residents, he is growing closer to the Lord.

He also took life-skills classes that helped him better understand finances and the importance of being responsible. His past work as a chef made him a perfect fit for our kitchen, where he’s happy to serve.

“The Mission feels like a genuine, real family,” he says. “I’m still working on my mental health and self-doubt, but it’s getting better. I’m getting back to my old self. I’m happy.”

With Jesus’ love in his heart and hope for the future, Jason is grateful for your support this Easter. “It really is a life-changing program.”
