Bread of Life Presented the 8th Annual Memorial Day Celebration

Monday, May 30th, 2016 // 12 - 4 p.m.

On May 30th, we served approximately 1,300 men and women who attended our annual Memorial Day celebration entitled "You Are Not Forgotten" honoring our U.S. Military veterans who make up a substantial part of the homeless population of Seattle.

We are so thankful to those who have served our country and have fought for our freedom. It was our privilege to honor them on this special day. At 12 pm, the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Honor Guard held a special ceremony honoring our veterans. Following the ceremony was a special message that was given by Captain (Retired) Dr. M. Mike McNair. Lunch was served immediately following the program at 1 pm. If you would like to volunteer at the Mission and were unable to serve at our Memorial Day event, please register with Volunteer Hub

The event took place in front of the Mission at 97 S. Main Street on the corner of 1st and S. Main.  All were welcome!

M. Mike McNair is an energized encourager. He brings his fountain of joy to whatever task he is presented with. From his service as a medic and pharmacy technician in the U.S. Army, at Fort Meade Maryland, to his training and leading and international 15k race for Army, Air Force and Marine troops at Fort Bliss Texas. He brings passion to his service and love for God, his family and his country.

His integrated career of service as an active duty soldier in the Vietnam era, to a reserve officer, commissioned by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, to training as a paratrooper at Fort Benning Georgia, returning to active duty for Operation Desert Storm and again in the Air Force in support of OIF/OEF (Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom). All the while, Captain McNair kept his roots in his relationships with God, his family and the community.

Donations are being accepted to help fund the event.  Almost all food is donated through generous partners which means that every $1.92 you provide will multiply 3 times to provide a meal! Your gift will provide meals for our homeless Veterans!

Volunteers are needed to help support the event as well! Time commitment for service is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes duties such as set up, meal service and clean up. If you are interested in volunteering by yourself or as a group, please register online.
